Boynton Key On Both Ends As Florida Beats Vanderbilt

Mar 12, 2011 9:12 PM

Kenny Boynton scored 24 points and held Vanderbilt’s guard John Jenkins to 10 points on 3-for-15 shooting to lead Florida to a 77-66 victory in the semifinals of the SEC tournament.

Jenkins entered the contest having scored 22 in each of Vanderbilit’s previous two meetings with Florida.

"My job tonight was just to come out and try to take him out of the game," said Boynton, who led the Gators with 24 points. Said coach Billy Donovan, "And Kenny Boynton was in the right place mentally… His focus wasn't on, 'OK, I'm going to try to match Jenkins point for point.'"

Erving Walker added 17 for the Gators.

Sullinger Ranks Fourth In Low-Post Scoring Efficiency

Mar 10, 2011 6:34 PM

Jared Sullinger scores 1.032 points per possession in the post.

Only Kansas’ Marcus Morris, California’s Harper Kamp, and Vanderbilt’s Festus Ezeli convert more points per low-post possession than Sullinger.

All that attention leads to plenty of open looks for Sullinger’s teammates, as nearly a quarter of Ohio State’s offensive possessions result in spot up jumpers.

Ohio State ranks second in offensive efficiency at 125.5 points per 100 possessions.

Vanderbilt's John Jenkins Unsure About Draft Status

Mar 5, 2011 1:37 PM

Vanderbilt's John Jenkins has yet to make a decision about whether he’ll enter the draft.

"A lot of (agents) have been calling my family and stuff, and I haven't gotten too much into it," Jenkins said. "Vanderbilt has been so good to me. I really don't want to leave. But any time you get a chance to play your dream, it's always hard to turn down."

Jenkins, who averages 19.4 points, said his decision comes down to the certainty of being a first-round NBA draft choice.

"For sure. I think any of us would (consider leaving then)," the former Station Camp star said. "And I think coaches would understand and players definitely would, too."

Kentucky Gets First Close Win

Mar 2, 2011 10:28 AM

Kentucky withstood a Vanderbilt rally and made enough late-game plays to win 68-66, on Tuesday night.

Kentucky, which came into the contest having dropped six games decided by five points or less, answered the call down the stretch as Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight Jones each made two of two free throws in the final 18.8 seconds to hold off Vanderbilt.

Calipari expects more of the same moving forward.

"We'll expect to win close games," he said. "That's a big part of it."
